According to MEMS Consulting, in November 2020, OmniVision - a leading global developer of digital imaging solutions - Ambarella (NASDAQ: AMBA), an AI vision silicon company, and Smart Eye - a global leader in AI-driven eye, mouth, and head tracking technology - announced the automotive industry’s first complete solution for dual-mode camera applications ahead of the AutoSens conference in Detroit!

This joint solution enables monitoring of the driver while capturing cabin occupant images for one-way video conferencing. It incorporates OmniVision’s OV2312 image sensor, the first of its kind developed for the automotive industry, featuring a dual-mode global shutter that simultaneously captures RGB color and infrared (IR) images under low-light conditions. Ambarella’s CV22AQ CVflow® computer vision processor processes both captures concurrently and runs Smart Eye’s algorithms to analyze driver status and alert the vehicle to any unsafe indications, such as drowsiness. The three companies jointly integrated and fine-tuned the solution to serve as a complete reference design, helping automotive designers focus on differentiating the end application while simplifying overall design efforts.
